About Algonquin Nursing Home
The Algonquin Nursing Home (the Home) was opened with 60 extended care beds in 1976 by Dr. S.F. Monestime and Mrs. Zena Monestime. In 1984, one wing of the facility was extended to provide 12 additional beds. Today, the Home operates 72 Long Term Care beds and one Respite Care bed, and typically runs at 96% to 100% occupancy.
The 73-bed, one story, home-like facility, is licensed under the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, designated under the French Language Services Act, and has been accredited with “Exemplary Standing” in 2017 for a second four-year cycle by Accreditation Canada.
In April 2013, as part of a community health integration plan for Mattawa, the family business was sold to Mattawa Seniors Living Corporation under the Catholic Health Sponsors of Ontario umbrella. ;Mattawa Seniors Living Corporation and its subsidiaries have now been amalgamated into Algonquin Nursing Home. Our not-for-profit home has partnered with the Hôpital de Mattawa Hospital in an integrative leadership structure as part of the ongoing strategy to improve the quality, safety, effectiveness, and efficiency of the delivery of services across the continuum of care. With the Ministry’s recent approval for us to participate in the Enhanced Long-Term Care Home Renewal Strategy, we are building a new home under current design standards on a co-located site, thereby strengthening the health hub model in our community.
The community has been waiting for a new Nursing Home for years, and its construction is now complete. Our new Home is located at 207 Turcotte Park Road. This is a very exciting time as we take another step forward to having a sustainable Health Care in Mattawa and area!
